Mobile service subscriptions in Oman rise by 9.6% to 8.51 million

Muscat: The total number of mobile phone subscriptions in the Sultanate of Oman rose to 8.51 million by the end of August 2026, registering a growth of 2.5 percent compared to the same period in 2025.

Data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) showed that active postpaid mobile phone subscriptions grew by 6.9 percent to reach 1.33 million subscriptions, while prepaid subscriptions decreased by 0.4 percent to reach 5.46 million subscriptions.
Subscriptions to Internet of Things (machine-to-machine) services also continued to grow, recording an increase of 9.4 percent to reach 1.71 million subscriptions by the end of August 2026.

In the internet services sector, the total number of active mobile broadband internet subscriptions rose to 5.68 million while the total number of active fixed broadband internet subscriptions reached 595,604.

Regarding fixed internet technologies, subscriptions to fibre optic technology for homes and facilities (FTTH/B) continued to grow, recording an increase of 6.5 percent to reach 369,766 subscriptions by the end of August 2026, while the number of fixed fifth-generation subscriptions reached 209,519 subscriptions.

In contrast, satellite subscriptions recorded the highest growth rate among fixed internet technologies, rising by 152.6 percent to reach 2,084 subscriptions.

As for other technologies, they continued to record a decline in fixed 4G subscriptions by 67.9 percent to record 5,107 subscriptions, and ADSL subscriptions also decreased by 23.1 percent to reach 8,411 subscriptions.

Other subscriptions (which include internet via power lines, Ethernet, and leased internet lines) decreased by 4.5 percent to 717 subscriptions by the end of August 2026 compared to the same period last year.
