Environment Authority holds forum in Muscat to promote sound management of chemicals

Muscat --- The Environment Authority today organized a forum in Muscat under the theme "Sound management of chemicals and relevant regulations". The forum aimed to raise public awareness about the laws and regulations governing activities that have environmental impacts. It also underlined the importance of observing environment protection responsibility across various sectors.

The forum's opening ceremony was held under the patronage of Dr. Yahya bin Nasser Al Khusaibi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs.

The event highlighted priority environmental issues and challenges in different governorates of the Sultanate of Oman. It included a presentation on relevant laws and regulations, a programme to unveil the forum’s official branding and an exhibition in which stakeholders showcased aspects related to environmental legislation and practices for the management of chemicals.

The forum also included three workshops on regulatory controls necessary for the sound management of chemicals in Oman, the legislative framework for managing pesticides and chemical fertilizers and the health aspects and occupational safety in handling chemicals.

The forum also featured a "mini-laboratory" session dedicated to environmental laws and regulations. The mini-lab session dealt with environmental challenges, brainstorming, the development of initiatives and the assessment of their feasibility.
