Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, will host the sixth session of the Council of Members of the International Dates Council next Sunday to discuss issues related to developing the date palm and dates sector and strengthening international cooperation in this field.
The meeting, attended by representatives of several member states, will discuss a range of administrative and technical matters, review the council’s annual report and highlight key achievements during the past period, as well as its plans, programmes and initiatives to support and develop the date palm and dates sector at regional and international levels.
The council will also discuss ways to strengthen cooperation among member states and facilitate the exchange of expertise, knowledge, studies, research, technologies and promising practices in production, quality, processing, marketing and international trade. These efforts aim to enhance the competitiveness of date products and expand their presence in global markets.
Discussions will further address the council’s role in providing data and indicators on production, trade and markets, and supporting member states in developing joint projects and building partnerships with the private sector, universities, research centres and relevant institutions. Other priorities include developing national capacities and exchanging expertise in innovation, sustainability and value chains.
The meeting will also review matters related to membership, which offers opportunities for member states to participate in shaping policies, strategies and initiatives concerning the future of the date palm and dates sector. Cooperation in standards, quality, food safety and access to international markets will also be discussed.
