Astana continues preparations for His Majesty’s state visit to Kazakhstan

Astana: Preparations are underway in the Kazakh capital, Astana, ahead of the state visit to be undertaken by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to the Republic of Kazakhstan tomorrow Monday. The national flags of the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Kazakhstan have been raised along the main roads and at several locations near the Independence Palace.

Meanwhile, a number of Kazakh media institutions covered the state visit that His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik will undertake to Kazakhstan and his meeting with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

Kazakh media addressed this new milestone in a bilateral relationship spanning more than three decades, as well as the mutual engagement and interest between the two friendly countries in leveraging their potential and translating it into partnerships across multiple fields, particularly economic and commercial.

In an article published under the title "Sultan of Oman to Visit Kazakhstan on a State Visit on 5 and 6 October," the Kazakh News Agency “Qazinform” focused on the talks that will address prospects for strengthening political dialogue and expanding commercial, economic, investment, and cultural cooperation, as well as the participation of the two countries' leaders in the proceedings of the Kazakh-Omani Economic Forum.

It highlighted areas of economic cooperation between the two countries and the signing of an investment cooperation agreement last April. It noted the existence of a joint investment portfolio comprising five major projects valued at approximately USD 3 billion. It emphasized the strategic location of Omani ports, explaining that Kazakhstan views these ports as one of the routes to access the markets of the Gulf region and the Indian Ocean, reflecting the importance of the logistical dimension in bilateral relations.

On another note, “Kazakhstan Today” reported under the headline "Sultan of Oman to Make First State Visit to Kazakhstan" that His Majesty's visit is his first to Kazakhstan and Central Asia. The talks His Majesty will hold with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and the signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding in multiple fields will open new horizons for partnership between the two friendly countries.

“Kazakhstan Today” addressed areas of this partnership such as transport, logistics services, and the possibility of transporting Kazakh exports, including wheat, through the Sultanate of Oman.

The 24KZ channel broadcast a report highlighting His Majesty the Sultan's visit to Kazakhstan and the opportunities for enhancing cooperation between the two countries in political, commercial, economic, investment, and cultural fields.

Kazakh media outlets, including print, visual, audio, and electronic platforms such as Kursiv, Informburo, Tengrinews, and Kazakhstanskaya Pravda, also covered the Royal visit, the official talks, and the agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two friendly countries.

Dmitry Popazov, a Kazakh strategic expert, told Oman News Agency (ONA) that relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Kazakhstan are moving toward transforming some of the ideas discussed by the two governments into real actions and projects, noting that Asytrans Company represents an example of this.

He explained that “Asyad” acquired a stake in May 2025 in the company, which operates in the rail transport of grain and other agricultural products. He indicated that the Omani investor did not merely purchase a stake in a company but became part of a transport chain directly linked to Kazakh agricultural exports, which yields benefits for both sides.

He added that Kazakhstan possesses products of interest to the Sultanate of Oman, such as agricultural and industrial products, including regular supplies such as grain and flour, alongside industrial products such as metals and pipes.

He noted that the Sultanate of Oman's geographical location constitutes a further factor underpinning its importance to Kazakhstan. He explained that Kazakhstan is a landlocked country in Central Asia with no direct access to the sea, whereas the Sultanate of Oman possesses major ports strategically positioned along key trade routes between the Arabian Gulf and the Indian Ocean.

He added that logistics has accordingly become part of the discussion between the two countries, noting that both sides are examining how to benefit from Oman's ports and transport infrastructure to help Kazakh goods reach farther markets, and that Kazakhstan views the Sultanate of Oman as a potential transit and transshipment hub.
