Muscat: His Highness Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of State and Governor of Muscat, on Tuesday chaired the meeting of the Muscat Governorate Municipal Council.
During its meeting, the Council reviewed a presentation delivered by the Directorate General of Health Services for Muscat Governorate on the health services and programmes provided in the governorate, the associated performance indicators, completed development projects, and health projects within development plans, in addition to development and maintenance works and efforts to promote public health and community services. This reflects the integration of efforts among the relevant authorities in developing the health system and elevating the level of services provided to the community.
Within the framework of promoting the preventive approach, the presentation addressed the foremost orientations aimed at enhancing prevention and community health by supporting initiatives designed to improve quality of life and reduce health risk factors, thereby strengthening community health and the sustainability of preventive efforts.
The Council ratified the minutes of its previous meeting and the recommendations contained therein concerning the Ministry of Social Development's plan for 2026, commending the efforts exerted to develop the social work system and enhance programmes and initiatives directed at various beneficiary groups, thereby contributing to supporting social development pathways and achieving the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
In the context of the meeting, the Council reviewed the recommendations of the standing committees on a number of service-related, regulatory, and development topics. On the regulatory front, the Legal Affairs Committee addressed the regulations governing the housing of workers at construction sites located within residential neighbourhoods, in light of the potential social and health implications and manifestations affecting the character of residential areas. It emphasised the importance of reviewing the regulatory controls and requirements to strike a balance between the requirements of construction work and the preservation of residents' safety and comfort.
On the health and environmental front, the Health and Environmental Affairs Committee examined the latest developments in the waste management sector at Muscat Municipality, including the efficiency of transport operations, compliance with specified timings, and community awareness, thereby contributing to elevating the level of public cleanliness and reducing environmental and health impacts.
In furtherance of the development pathway, the Governorate Development and Growth Committee addressed a number of proposals aimed at diversifying facilities and activities in the Wilayat of Al Amerat, including a dedicated project for motorcycle enthusiasts, thereby contributing to enriching the service and recreational landscape and enhancing the foundations of development in the wilayat.
The Council also reviewed a number of incoming correspondences, including a proposal to rebuild Quriyat Hospital in a manner that copes with the urban expansion and population growth in the wilayat, contributing to enhancing the quality of health services provided, as well as proposals concerning the protection of sites of natural value and certain planning uses related to community needs. It emphasized the importance of addressing these matters in a manner that keeps pace with service and development priorities and preserves the governorate's natural assets.
