Ibra: The Environment Authority on Monday organised a forum titled “Environmental Legislation: Wadis, heritage and future”, in the Governorate of North Al Sharqiyah.
The forum was held under the auspices of Mahmoud bin Yahya Al Dhuhli, Governor of North Al Sharqiyah.
The forum included four presentations. The first, titled "Wadis in the Sultanate of Oman: From legislative protection to sustainable environmental management" addressed integrated spatial planning and smart monitoring.
The second presentation, titled “Hydrological systems and sediment movement in wadi channels”, highlighted the importance of integrated management in mitigating flood risks.
The third presentation covered regulations and procedures for protecting wadis.
The fourth presentation showcased a study assessing risks of flash floods in Wadi Hadad in the village of Al Naba in the Wilayat of Al Qabil, North Al Sharqiyah Governorate. It elaborated on the risks associated with urban expansion within the wadi's buffer zone.
The forum also included a panel discussion on ways to develop legislative and regulatory frameworks for the preservation of wadis.
