New York: Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi met with António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, at the UN headquarters in New York.
During the meeting, Sayyid Badr conveyed the greetings of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to the UN Secretary-General, along with His Majesty’s wishes for success in carrying out his responsibilities and international and humanitarian efforts.
Guterres, in turn, conveyed his sincere greetings and best wishes to His Majesty the Sultan and the Omani people for continued progress and prosperity.
The two sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between Oman and the United Nations and coordinate efforts to build trust and develop sustainable understandings in support of regional security and peace.
The UN Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for Oman’s efforts to facilitate dialogue and bring positions closer together, praising the Sultanate’s approach based on wisdom and balance.
He also commended Oman’s contribution to international efforts aimed at promoting the peaceful settlement of conflicts and supporting humanitarian initiatives.
The meeting also reviewed regional and international developments and ways to expand diplomatic efforts to contain crises and mitigate their repercussions, with emphasis on protecting civilians and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian assistance to those affected.
