Omani novelist Mohammed bin Eid Al Araimi passes away at 72

Muscat: Omani novelist Mohammed bin Eid Al Araimi passed away on Thursday at the age of 72, following a distinguished literary and cultural career spanning several decades, during which he produced a number of novels, short stories and translations.

Born in 1954 in Wadi Al Mar in the Wilayat of Sur, South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, Al Araimi earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from a university in the United States in 1981.

Throughout his literary career, Al Araimi authored several works, including Hazz Al-Qayd, Between the Desert and the Sea, The Taste of Patience, A Testimony from a Time of War and Rainbow.

He also translated George Orwell’s Animal Farm into Arabic, contributing to the enrichment of Oman’s literary and cultural landscape through both his original works and translation.

In recognition of his literary contributions and creative experience, Al Araimi received an award from the Omani Society for Writers and Authors in 2023.
