Sayyid Badr discusses cooperation with Japanese counterpart

MUSCAT: Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, received Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi at the Foreign Ministry in Muscat.

The Ministers discussed the friendship and cooperation between the two countries. They reaffirmed their partnership and commitment to further developing cooperation across political, economic and cultural fields. They also highlighted the importance of political dialogue and exchanging views on issues of common interest.

On regional and international developments, the Ministers discussed efforts to de-escalate tensions and create conditions conducive to peaceful solutions in the region.

They focused in particular on freedom and the safety of maritime navigation through the vital waterways of the Straits of Hormuz and Bab Al Mandab, in accordance with international law, to safeguard international trade and the stability of global supply chains.

The Ministers also discussed ways to expand economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries and encourage partnerships between public and private sector institutions.

The Ministers also discussed strengthening cooperation in oil and liquefied natural gas and expanding it into renewable energy, hydrogen and ammonia.

They also explored cooperation in tourism, transport, the environment, technology, maritime security, food security and education.

The meeting was attended by Ambassador Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al Hosni, Head of the Asia and Pacific Department at the Foreign Ministry; Japan’s Ambassador to Oman, Kiyoshi Serizawa; and officials from both countries.
