MUSCAT: Oman's Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has highlighted a series of enforcement actions and consumer protection measures carried out across the Sultanate during the past seven days.
The measures included court action against a commercial shop in South Al Batinah Governorate, with the court ordering the shop's closure, imprisonment of defendants and fines in connection with offences committed by the establishment.
In Muscat Governorate, the CPA also closed two chair-manufacturing establishments and another establishment involved in selling and installing doors.
The authority said it recovered more than OMR 3,000 for consumers in Al Dakhiliyah and South Al Batinah governorates as part of its efforts to resolve consumer complaints and protect consumer rights.
The CPA also recalled 55 Kia vehicles manufactured between 2021 and 2025. The recall forms part of the authority's efforts to address potential safety or technical issues affecting vehicles in the local market.
In another enforcement action, a retailer of sports equipment in Muscat Governorate was fined for failing to repair or replace defective equipment in accordance with consumer protection requirements.
The authority also announced the recall of 2,084 BMW vehicles from model years 2018 to 2026 due to a potential defect involving the starter motor.
The measures reflect the CPA's continued monitoring of commercial establishments, products and services, while taking legal and corrective action when consumer rights or product safety requirements are breached.
