Muscat: A commercial establishment specialising in the fabrication and installation of doors and windows in Al Dhahirah Governorate has been fined and ordered to compensate a consumer after failing to fulfil its contractual obligations.
According to the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA), the case stemmed from a complaint filed by a consumer who had entered into an agreement with the company to manufacture and install windows for his home. The consumer paid the agreed amount in full, but the company failed to complete the work within the timeframe specified in the contract.
Following legal proceedings, the competent court found the establishment's representative guilty of violating consumer protection regulations.
The court imposed a fine of OMR 500 on the establishment's representative and ordered the company to refund the consumer OMR 2,100, pay OMR 300 as compensation for the damages incurred, and bear all legal costs.
The CPA said the ruling underscores its commitment to safeguarding consumers' rights and ensuring that businesses honour their contractual obligations. It urged consumers to report violations and encouraged commercial establishments to comply with the Consumer Protection Law to avoid legal action.
