Environment Authority confirms no oil spill from stranded vessel near Hallaniyat Islands

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman’s Environment Authority has said that it is closely monitoring a grounded vessel within the protected marine zone surrounding the Hallaniyat Islands, and confirmed that preliminary inspections have found no signs of oil pollution.

In a statement, the Authority said it is coordinating with the relevant government agencies to assess and manage the incident, which occurred south of the vessel’s route near Al Qibliyah Island in the Wilayat of Shalim and the Hallaniyat Islands in Dhofar Governorate.

The Authority reassured residents that a technical team from the Directorate General of Environment in Dhofar visited the accident site on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, where specialists inspected the grounded vessel and collected seawater samples from the surrounding coastal areas.

According to the initial laboratory findings, no traces of oil contamination have been detected in the waters surrounding the Hallaniyat Islands.

The Environment Authority said its technical teams remain on site in coordination with the National Committee for Emergency Management to continue monitoring the situation and implement the necessary contingency measures should any potential leakage occur.

The Authority also urged the public to obtain information related to the incident only from official sources and to refrain from spreading rumors or sharing unverified information, emphasizing the importance of relying on accurate and credible updates.
