WHO delegation reviews community initiatives and programmes implemented by Yanqul Health City

Yanqul: A delegation from the World Health Organization (WHO) reviewed a number of health and community initiatives and programmes being implemented by Yanqul Health City in Al Dhahirah Governorate as part of the preliminary assessment of the wilaya in its pursuit of obtaining international accreditation as a Healthy City.

This effort aims to promote public health concepts, sustainable development, and improve quality of life.

The delegation began its visit programme with a meeting held at the office of Sheikh Dr. Ali Mohammed Al Busaidi, Wali of Yanqul, attended by members of the Executive Office of Yanqul Health City and a number of officials and specialists from the wilayat.

The meeting included an extensive presentation on the most prominent events, activities, and initiatives implemented by Yanqul Health City, along with an overview of the wilaya’s geographical location and its health and developmental indicators.

The presentation also discussed programs and projects implemented in accordance with approved Healthy Cities standards.

Following this, the delegation visited the headquarters of the Executive Office of Yanqul Health City, reviewed the accreditation files and supporting documents, and watched a visual presentation showcasing the achievements realized, health and community programmes, and the roles of committees and partner entities in achieving the Healthy City’s objectives.

During their visit to Yanqul Hospital, the delegation reviewed health indicators, preventive and awareness programmes, services provided to the community, and their role in promoting public health and improving the efficiency of health services.

The delegation also visited the walking track operated by Yanqul Adventures Team, where they received an explanation of its objectives and its role in encouraging community members to engage in physical activities and promote healthy lifestyles, in addition to visiting Beit Al Marah Fort.

As part of reviewing community initiatives, the delegation visited the Omani Women’s Association in Yanqul and took note of the training and community programs, as well as initiatives implemented by the association to serve various segments of society.

The visit programme also included a tour of the Friday Market and Yanqul Fish Market, implemented under the community partnership between Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, in addition to a visit to the proposed site for a new walking track intended to be implemented in collaboration with the private sector.

This visit is part of the preliminary assessment stages conducted by the World Health Organization to determine the extent to which the Wilayat of Yanqul meets the Healthy Cities criteria, in preparation for completing the procedures for obtaining international accreditation.
