SQU Council approves new Bachelor of Science in Business Analytics programme

Muscat: The Council of Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) held its second meeting of the 2025/2026 academic year today at the university's council meeting room, chaired by Dr. Madiha Ahmed Al Shibani, Minister of Education and Chairperson of the University Council.

The Council reviewed the latest progress of university operations across various relevant aspects, as well as the implementation status of decisions and recommendations issued during previous meetings.

In light of the accelerating transition toward a data-driven digital economy and the growing need to prepare national cadres capable of analyzing and utilizing data to support decision-making and enhance institutional competitiveness, the Council approved a new academic program titled "Bachelor of Science in Business Analytics" within the College of Economics and Political Science. This program represents a qualitative addition to the higher education system and responds to the evolving demands of the labor market.

The programme focuses on developing skills in quantitative analysis, critical thinking, the application of modern technologies, and data-driven decision-making.

As part of fulfilling the regulatory requirements stipulated in the Sultan Qaboos University Law issued under Royal decree No. 19/2024, the Council discussed a number of internal regulatory frameworks related to the appointment of academic supervisory positions and other matters concerning the teaching faculty. These discussions aim to enhance institutional governance practices within the university.

The Council also reviewed the university's efforts and procedural readiness to meet the requirements for renewing its institutional accreditation from Oman Authority for Quality Assurance of Education, building upon its previous accreditation obtained in 2019. This renewal reflects the university's ongoing commitment to continuous improvement and development.
