
Nizwa: The activities of the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and its Applications commenced on Wednesday in the Wilayat of Nizwa, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.
The two-day event is organised by the University of Nizwa, represented by the Information Systems Department at the College of Economics, Management and Information Systems, in partnership with the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Ibri, the Higher School of Economics (HSE University) in the Russian Federation and Fudan University in the People's Republic of China.
The opening of the conference was held under the auspices of Eng. Omar Hamdan Al Ismaili, CEO of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority. The event was attended by Dr. Ahmed Khalfan Al Rawahi, Chancellor of the University of Nizwa.
The event saw the participation of numerous experts, researchers, academics, and specialists in the fields of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity from 25 countries.
The conference's scientific programme encompasses 16 working sessions that discuss approximately 80 research papers, meticulously selected from a total of 361 submissions. These sessions address the latest research and emerging trends in the field of smart systems and artificial intelligence, alongside its role in shaping the future of technology. Furthermore, the sessions discuss best research practices and provide constructive feedback that contributes to developing performance quality and achieving beneficial scientific exchange among the participating parties.
Dr. Salim Said Al Abri, Dean of the College of Economics, Management and Information Systems and Chairman of the Supervisory Committee of the conference, stated that organising this event aligns with the university's plans and programmes in the field of artificial intelligence and its applications. It aims to deepen the understanding of the areas and challenges associated with the development and utilisation of artificial intelligence across various sectors, as well as to explore modern trends in this domain.
He added that the conference features an elite group of keynote speakers from the Sultanate of Oman, the United States of America, Russia, and Australia. These speakers, who are pioneers in their respective fields with prominent contributions, will share pioneering visions regarding the latest developments and trends in artificial intelligence.
He pointed out that the programme includes discussion panels where experts review the main issues shaping current artificial intelligence applications and its future directions, alongside workshops designed to enhance the skills of the participants, and specialized sessions focusing on the conference's core themes.
The conference covers a wide spectrum of research and applied issues in the fields of artificial intelligence. Most notably, these include big data analysis, cybersecurity, and advanced applications such as converting natural language into database queries utilizing large language models.
The event also explores the analysis of legal texts according to ethical frameworks, the development of models for content evaluation and sentiment analysis, in addition to topics related to the healthcare sector, energy, smart cities, quantum computing, smart systems and robotics, and emerging technologies.
The conference is expected to conclude with a set of recommendations, most prominently emphasizing the enhancement of knowledge and expertise exchange among researchers and specialists. The recommendations are also anticipated to call for the support and development of innovative technological solutions that contribute to addressing contemporary challenges and achieving sustainable development.
Furthermore, the outcomes aim to build effective partnerships between academic and industrial institutions to foster cooperation and the exchange of expertise, while working on developing joint research in collaboration with relevant entities.
