Royal Hospital’s advanced CT scanner to help doctors target tumours more precisely

Muscat — The National Oncology Centre at the Royal Hospital has inaugurated the advanced SOMATOM go.Open Pro CT system, marking a significant step toward improving the accuracy of radiotherapy planning and patient care.

The newly introduced scanner features a wide 85-cm bore and a flat tabletop designed to replicate the treatment environment, helping ensure optimal patient positioning during imaging and therapy preparation. The system delivers high-quality imaging at lower radiation doses, supporting safer diagnostic and planning procedures.

It is also equipped with 4D-CT technology that tracks tumour motion during breathing, enabling clinicians to target moving tumours with greater precision and effectiveness.

Officials described the addition as a strategic move to enhance service efficiency, strengthen treatment accuracy, and improve the overall patient experience in line with the latest international healthcare standards.
