More than 8000 people released under Fak Kurbah campaign

Muscat : The Omani Lawyers Association launched the 13th edition of its humanitarian initiative, "Fak Kurbah ", continuing its efforts to support those facing financial hardship in non-criminal cases and to promote the values of solidarity and compassion within Omani society.

The launch ceremony was held under the patronage of His Excellency Abdul Salam bin Mohammed Al Murshidi, Chairman of the Oman Investment Authority.

Dr. Hamad bin Hamdan Al Rubai, Chairman of the Omani Lawyers Association, stated that the initiative represents a leading national model in humanitarian and social work, embodying the spirit of solidarity and mutual support that characterizes Omani society.

He noted that its continued success is a result of the combined efforts of official and community stakeholders.

Al Rubai added that the achievements of previous editions reflect the high level of trust the initiative enjoys and the significant support provided by governmental and private institutions, in addition to the contributions of individuals and philanthropists, who have played a pivotal role in enabling the initiative to achieve its humanitarian goals.

Al Rubai explained that the initiative, in its thirteenth edition, aims to develop operational mechanisms, enhance transparency and governance, and expand its base of supporters to ensure the sustainability of its impact and reach the largest possible number of deserving cases across the Sultanate of Oman.

During the ceremony, the association reviewed the results of the initiative's twelfth edition, which resulted in the release of 1,088 individuals in non-criminal financial cases across the Sultanate of Oman.

The initiative targets cases that meet specific criteria, most notably: the insolvent individual must be imprisoned or have an arrest warrant issued against them in commercial, civil, labor, or Sharia cases only. The claim amount must not exceed OMR 2,000 and the individual must not have benefited from the initiative in its previous editions. Priority is given to smaller claims, followed by larger ones, and then to the oldest insolvent individuals. Cases are received from the Administrative Affairs Council of the Judiciary.

It is worth noting that the “Fak Kurbah ” initiative, since its launch in 2012, has managed to release more than 8,198 people in financial distress in non-criminal cases, continuing its work under the slogan “Because we believe that a person deserves a second chance.”
