Sur: The Wilayat of Sur will celebrate next Wednesday, 11 February 2026, the laying of the foundation stone for the "Masar" Waterfront Development Project in the Al Barr area.
The project, with a total estimated cost of approximately OMR2 million, is part of South A’Sharqiyah Governorate's efforts to develop urban facilities and enhance quality of life through an active partnership with the private sector.
The project features a health walkway, a dedicated cycling path, children's play areas, and public seating zones. It also includes the structural and service preparation of padel court facilities intended for investment, alongside restaurants, cafes, and commercial kiosks.
The foundation stone-laying ceremony will be held under the auspices of Nasser Khamis Al Jashmi, Chairman of the Tax Authority and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Oman LNG Development Foundation.
The project aligns with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, aiming to create an integrated urban destination that combines sports, recreational activities, and commercial services.
This initiative seeks to optimize the use of the waterfront and enhance the city's overall attractiveness.
Dr. Yahya Badr Al Maawali, Governor of South A’Sharqiyah, explained that the project represents a qualitative addition to the Wilayat of Sur and reflects the governorate’s direction toward developing sustainable public facilities that meet community needs.
In a statement to Oman News Agency, Al Maawali said: "The 'Masar' Waterfront Development Project is one of the important developmental projects that promote healthy lifestyles and provide a suitable environment for practicing sports and recreational activities, in addition to its role in stimulating economic activity."
He noted that the project is part of the "Masar" initiative implemented by Oman Liquefied Natural Gas Company (Oman LNG) in cooperation with the governorate across several of its wilayats to develop waterfronts and urban walkways while improving the quality of public spaces.
Dr. Yahya Al Maawali further indicated that the South A’Sharqiyah Governorate will oversee the implementation of the project with support from Oman LNG, with construction scheduled to begin on 11 September and span a duration of one year.
