Global support for start of US–Iran negotiations in Oman

Muscat: Regional and international support has emerged for the US–Iran negotiations hosted by the Sultanate of Oman, as officials and governments expressed optimism that the talks could help ease tensions and advance diplomatic solutions regarding the Iranian nuclear file.

Oman’s Foreign Minister described the discussions held in Muscat as serious and constructive, noting that they helped clarify the positions and orientations of both sides and identified areas that could form a basis for potential progress. He added that talks are expected to resume at an appropriate time, with outcomes to be reviewed in both Tehran and Washington.

The Iranian Foreign Minister also expressed appreciation to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik for Oman’s role in hosting the talks and facilitating dialogue. Speaking to Oman TV, he said discussions with the US delegation took place in a positive atmosphere, allowing both sides to exchange views and articulate their concerns and interests regarding a possible agreement on the nuclear issue.

The United Nations Secretary-General thanked Oman for facilitating the resumption of talks and acknowledged regional efforts that helped make the negotiations possible, expressing hope that the dialogue would contribute to reducing regional tensions and preventing a broader crisis.

Several Arab countries welcomed Oman’s mediation role. Egypt voiced full support for the resumption of negotiations in Muscat, praising constructive regional efforts to reduce escalation and achieve a peaceful, sustainable settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue. Jordan expressed strong appreciation for Oman’s role in hosting the talks and supporting diplomatic initiatives aimed at de-escalation and stability in the region.

Kuwait also welcomed the negotiations, expressing hope they would lead to a comprehensive agreement that serves the interests of both parties while safeguarding regional security and stability. Qatar similarly praised Oman’s facilitation of the talks and its efforts, alongside friendly and sister nations, to defuse tensions and promote constructive dialogue on outstanding issues.

Oman has long played a mediating role in regional diplomacy, with the latest talks reflecting continued efforts to encourage dialogue, reduce tensions, and promote peaceful solutions through diplomatic channels.
