Foreign Minister holds separate talks with Iran and U.S. envoys

Muscat: As the Sultanate of Oman once again takes center stage in regional diplomacy, Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Al Busaidi held a series of pivotal, separate consultations with the Iranian and American delegations in Muscat today, February 6, 2026. These meetings serve as a critical precursor to formal negotiations regarding the Iranian nuclear dossier, aiming to bridge the gap between Tehran and Washington.

The deliberations began with a meeting between Sayyid Badr and the Iranian delegation, led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Shortly thereafter, the Omani Foreign Minister convened with the American team, headed by U.S. President’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Senior Advisor Jared Kushner. These "separate consultations" are a hallmark of Oman's quiet diplomacy, designed to establish a requisite foundation for both diplomatic and technical negotiations to resume in a structured and productive environment.
Central to today’s discussions was a shared commitment to finding a sustainable path forward. Omani officials emphasized that the goal of these sessions is to move beyond rhetoric and secure a successful outcome that ensures enduring security and stability for the Middle East. The presence of high-level representatives from both sides underscores the paramount significance of this round, which many observers view as a "last chance" to de-escalate tensions following a year of regional military friction.
The Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed its dedication to supporting the dialogue, noting that Muscat remains a neutral ground focused on narrowing differences and fostering mutual understanding. While technical complexities remain, the "Muscat Channel" has successfully brought both parties back to the table, providing a renewed opportunity for a diplomatic breakthrough.
