Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman will participate in the International Tourism Fair “FITUR 2026,” set to launch next Wednesday in Madrid, Spain. The participation aims to highlight global developments in the tourism sector, explore sustainable and innovative tourism concepts, and leverage the latest trends and technologies to support sustainable tourism development.
Oman’s participation will include representatives from tourism institutions, companies, hotel establishments, and strategic partners in the tourism sector. It seeks to showcase the latest developments in Oman’s tourism industry, promote local destinations and tourism products, and strengthen cooperation with Spanish and international tourism companies to increase tourist inflows to the Sultanate.
The event will also witness the announcement of new partnerships and promotional programs implemented by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in cooperation with its strategic partners.
Haitham Mohammed Al Ghassani, Director-General of Tourism Promotion at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, stated that Oman’s participation in FITUR 2026 comes as part of ongoing efforts to enhance the development of the Sultanate’s diverse tourism assets. He noted that this is achieved by benefiting from international expertise, expanding Oman’s presence in global tourism markets, and building strategic partnerships that support the competitiveness and sustainability of the tourism sector.
He added that FITUR is distinguished by the wide range of tourism fields it covers and by showcasing innovative tourism technologies that offer new opportunities aligned with modern tourism trends. The exhibition also provides in-depth market studies and analyses, which support future plans to target and attract new tourism markets to the Sultanate.
Al Ghassani pointed out that the Sultanate of Oman is an attractive destination for Spanish tourists, with the number of visitors from Spain reaching approximately 10,749 between January and November 2025. He further noted that Madrid serves as a key aviation hub connecting Europe and Latin America, accounting for 16.5 percent of air traffic, making Spanish tourism companies an important gateway for attracting Latin American visitors to Oman.
