Muscat: The expatriate community in Oman is mourning the loss of Dr. Satish Nambiar, former chairman of the Indian Social Club (ISC), who passed away in India on Thursday morning.
Dr. Nambiar died after a brief illness at a hospital in Mangalore. Widely regarded as a father figure within the ISC fraternity, he served the Indian diaspora in Oman for many decades, earning deep respect for his leadership, compassion, and community spirit.
Eminent social worker P.M. Jabir described him as a “friend, philosopher and guide.” He added: “An extraordinary leader, an orator par excellence, an organiser nobody can match. I owe him immensely. He shaped who I am today. He encouraged and supported me greatly in reaching out to
Indians in difficult situations. The Indian diaspora across the Gulf will miss him dearly. Adieu Doc, the world without you is unthinkable to me.”
Senior ISC member Suhail Khan said the former chairman was a remarkable human being whose leadership and kindness shaped the community for decades. “A respected physician, Dr. Nambiar practised medicine with empathy and excellence, touching countless lives. Outside his profession, he was a sportsman and a quiz champion, a man whose sharp mind and warm camaraderie uplifted everyone around him.”
Dr. Nambiar was also considered the doyen of cultural activities in Oman. Through both the Indian Social Club and his dynamic platform “Doc LLC,” he championed the arts, nurtured talent, and brought communities together through vibrant cultural events. His work transformed the cultural landscape and established a legacy that will endure for years.
He stood at the frontline during crises, be it during Cyclone Gonu or the COVID-19 pandemic . He was known for his calm, decisive leadership and commitment to ensuring help reached those in need. His humanitarian work extended to India, where he supported relief efforts during major calamities.
For Khan, Dr. Nambiar was “a champion forever.” He said: “He was an institution, someone from whom there was always something to learn. A leader, visionary, friend, father figure, and even a godfather to my daughter, he enriched our lives with his warmth, wisdom, and boundless generosity.”
Another ISC member, Shakeel Kommoth, said: “A respected physician, a cultural pioneer, a sportsman, and a steadfast humanitarian, Dr. Nambiar touched countless lives through his healing hands, visionary initiatives, and tireless commitment to people in need. To many he was a leader; to many more, a guardian.”
He added that Dr. Nambiar’s values - service, unity, empathy, and cultural excellence - will continue to inspire generations within the Indian community in Oman.
Expressing solidarity, Sirajul Haque, Chairman of the Bangladesh Social Club in Oman, said: “We offer our heartfelt condolences on the passing of the former chairman of the Indian Social Club. We are extremely saddened and pray to the Almighty to grant peace to the departed soul and strength to the family during this difficult time.”
Dr. Nambiar leaves behind a rich legacy of service, compassion, cultural leadership, and community unity, one that will be remembered and cherished across Oman and beyond.
The Indian Social Club will hold a condolence meeting at 7pm on Sunday, 7th December, at the ISC Multipurpose Hall.
