Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Social Development, marked the World Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse.
The celebration aimed to promote the culture of child protection, raise awareness on the forms of abuse, highlight the systems and laws related to child protection, reporting mechanisms and procedures, and emphasise the role of competent authorities and care institutions in prevention, intervention, and psychological and social support.
The ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Al Saidi, Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs.
The event included a theatrical performance carrying an awareness message to promote the concept of children's rights, affirming the shared responsibility to protect them, and ensuring the provision of a safe environment for the child that preserves their dignity and supports their proper growth.
The ceremony also included two discussion sessions. The first session, titled "Integration of Roles between Justice and Social Care", included presentations from various specialised bodies.
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Social Development accords great attention to enhancing child care and preserving their rights and raising the level of community prevention. Last September, the Ministry launched the "Child Protection Guide", which aims to develop the social protection system for children by defining the roles of relevant authorities and unifying national procedures related to cases of abuse and neglect.
