Oman, Syria explore avenues of economic cooperation

Muscat— Qais Mohammed Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion received today Asaad Hasan Al-Shaibani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic, as part of his official visit to the Sultanate of Oman.

The meeting explored avenues to enhance economic and trade relations between the two countries and discussed opportunities for joint cooperation in the upcoming phase.

The two ministers addressed various joint cooperation files, including facilitating procedures for businesspeople and investors, discussing the operation of direct flights between the two countries, and exploring opportunities for Omani companies to contribute to reconstruction projects in the Syrian Arab Republic. They also discussed means of enhancing the utilization of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA) and facilitating the movement of land and maritime transport, as well as customs and non-customs procedures.

Furthermore, the two sides emphasized the importance of activating the work of the Omani-Syrian Joint Committee to enhance coordination in commercial and investment affairs between the two countries, and dispatching technical delegations to the two nations to explore trade, economic, and investment cooperation opportunities.

This meeting comes within the framework of the two countries' keenness to cement economic cooperation and exchange investment opportunities, serving common interests and opening new horizons for trade integration between them.
