Over 8,000 individuals enroll in centres for people with disabilities

Muscat: Government, private, and civil rehabilitation centers and units for people with disabilities across the Sultanate of Oman have welcomed 8,941 enrollees at the start of the new 2025/2026 rehabilitation year.

Comprehensive preparations are in place to provide advanced rehabilitation services and programs aimed at empowering beneficiaries and integrating them into society.

The distribution of enrollees includes 3,586 in government rehabilitation centres and units, 4,756 in private rehabilitation centres, and 599 in civil rehabilitation centres.

Oman’s rehabilitation system comprises 126 centres, including 43 government centres and units such as Al Wafa Rehabilitation Centers for People with Disabilities, the National Autism Center in Muscat Governorate, the Early Intervention Center, the Intellectual Disability and Down Syndrome Center, the Cerebral Palsy and Physical Disabilities Center, the Vocational Rehabilitation Center, and mobile rehabilitation units, alongside 72 private centers and 11 civil centers.

A total of 1,417 technical specialists are dedicated to rehabilitating people with disabilities, distributed as follows: 406 specialists in government rehabilitation centres and units, 928 in private centers, and 83 in civil centers.

They provide comprehensive rehabilitation services and programs in special education, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, psychological and behavioural rehabilitation, hydrotherapy, as well as workshops, training activities, sports, arts, and family counseling.
