Muscat: The National Emergency Management Center (NEMC) took part in a large-scale videoconferencing international exercise codenamed “ConvEx-3” that was based on the hypothesis of a radioactive leak at the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant in Romania.
The exercise was conducted in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), as part of measures to enhance national preparedness to deal with nuclear and radiological emergencies.
The two-day exercise saw the participation of different parties represented in the National Committee for Emergency Management.
The exercise envisages multiple scenarios aimed at testing the effectiveness of coordination and the mechanisms of communication among the parties concerned, as well as the efficiency of procedures followed in responding to such incidents.
