Shinas: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism has completed restoration and maintenance work for several heritage and archaeological sites in the village of Mirir in the Wilayat of Shinas, located in the North Al Batinah Governorate.

These include Mirir Tower and Al Murabba Tower, as part of ongoing efforts to preserve Oman’s architectural and historical heritage.

The initiative aims to safeguard these landmarks and highlight their cultural value, ensuring they remain a living legacy and a testament to the nation’s history.

Hassan Sulaiman Al Jabri, Director of the Heritage and Tourism Department in North Al Batinah Governorate, stated that the restoration of Mirir and Al Murabba Towers in Shinas was completed through community efforts under the ministry’s supervision. The project involved providing sarooj (traditional mortar) and other materials, along with technical support, he added.

He explained that Al Murabba Tower is located in Mirir Al Matarish village, west of the coastal road. The square-shaped structure measures approximately 4.5 meters in length, 3.3 meters in width, and 7 meters in height. Built on an elevated hill, the tower is bordered by a water channel (wadi) to the south and was constructed using mud and stone.

Meanwhile, Mirir Tower is situated on coastal land in Mirir Al Matarish village, east of the coastal road, overlooking the Sea of Oman. The cylindrical structure, built with mud and gravel, has multiple openings and stands 6 meters in diameter and about 10 meters tall.

The Wilayat of Shinas is home to numerous historic forts, castles, and watchtowers, including Shinas Fort, Rasat Al Milh Fort, Khidrawain Fort, Ajeeb Fort and Al Asrar Fort.
