Over 30 expats arrested in Oman for illegal fishing

Muscat: More than 30 expat workers were arrested while fishing at night, as it is forbidden for expatriates to engage in fishing.

General Directorate of Agriculture, Fishing and Water Resources said: "The fish control team in Al Wusta Governorate was able, at dawn today, to seize 34 expat workers at sea in wilayat of Masirah while they were fishing at night."

According to Article (46) of the executive regulations of the Law on Maritime Fishing and Protection of Living Aquatic Resources, it is strictly prohibited to employ foreign workers in the field of marine fishing.
