Muscat: Muscat Science Fest, the science and technology arm of the Indian Social Club Kerala Wing, organised a science fair, called Science Project Contest - 2020 (SPC 2020) and an exhibition & competition of science projects for the students in Oman through the online platform on December 18 and 19.
Dr Felix Bast, a renowned scientist and member of the Indian Antarctic Exploration Team and Assistant Professor at the Central University of Punjab inaugurated the Science Fair. Indian Social Club Oman Chairman Dr Satish Nambiar, Indian Social Club Cultural and Entertainment Secretary and Observer to Kerala Wing Saji Abraham and Indian Schools BOD former Chairman Wilson George, were congratulated the participants.
As part of the event, there were two webinars, webinar on “Life in Space” narrated by ISRO former Scientist PM Siddharthan and BARC Scientist and Chairman of BARC Safety Council K Jayarajan delivered a speech on the topic 'Nuclear Radiation and Its Applications'.
Nitin Senthilnathan of Indian School Al Ghubra won the first prize for the best project. Sahana Sandesh Kumar and Pavanaj Sandesh Kumar of Indian School Darsait came second while Anupama Rajreddy of Indian School Muladda bagged the third prize. Safa Amin and Amaan Amin from Indian School Sur also bagged the prize for the project that attracted the most visitors.
In the past, these events were part of the Indian Community Festival organised by Kerala Wing every year. The two-day science fair was attended by about 5,000 people this year. The event, which was conducted using the TouchQ online platform, has been receiving a very good response from visitors. The organisers said that such events will be organised on a large scale in the future as well.
Purushottam Kanji Exchange, Oman's first money exchange group, was the presenter of the event. Abeer Hospital, the GCC's leading hospital network, was the main sponsor of the event.
