Muscat: On the occasion of the 50th National Day, Apollo Hospitals Muscat has launched a much-awaited service – Apollo Homecare with the Ministry of Health’s protocol.
The service was inaugurated by Saeed bin Sultan Yarub Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of Culture, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth in the presence of other dignitaries.
Apollo takes the ‘home’ advantage
“We wanted to take Apollo’s services to the next level and since homecare is the new buzzword and what societies crave for all types of patients, especially our elderly patients and others who might be weak and homebound, we decided to go ahead with this brand new service for our patients,” said VT Saileshwaran, Managing Director of Apollo hospitals Muscat.
He noted that home medical services, especially among Muscat’s geriatric population, are a necessity.
“This home service that we offer will greatly reduce the stress that the patient and the family members go through when confronted with ailments. Accordingly, our medical team has planned out various services the patients can receive from Apollo without leaving their homes,” Saileshwaran added.
Home care – core services
The core services that Apollo Hospitals Muscat will be provided through the home care are - physical assessment and vital signs with doctor’s assessment and evaluation, post-operative care, sample collection, wound dressing, physiotherapy, urinary catheter change, Ryles tube insertion, IV line and fluid administration, tracheostomy care, basic drug administrations, hygienic care in addition to pharmacy home delivery.
Recognition for managing diabetes
Meanwhile, since 2011, the IMC Sugar Apollo has been providing dedicated care for individuals tackling diabetes. On the occasion of the launch and the World Diabetes Day, some of the patients who have been managed by the team since the inception of the service were recognised for successfully controlling diabetes as well as weight loss.
Often described as a lifestyle disease, with the right measures and dedication diabetes can be managed, Apollo health experts opined.
Controlling diabetes
“Diabetes need not control, restrict or define you. You can quite easily manage it through good food choices, adequate exercise, regular monitoring, using your medications as prescribed and by educating yourself well about the condition. By paying attention to these details, it is possible to lead a healthy life. Remember, being in control of your diabetes is empowering,” said Dr Praveen Jeyapathy, Specialist Diabetologist, the IMC Sugar Apollo.
Nurses play a vital role
With the latest service Apollo Hospitals Muscat joins the campaign of World Diabetes Day, which aims to raise awareness around the crucial role that nurses play in supporting people living with diabetes.
Nurses - making a difference
The theme for World Diabetes Day 2020 is The Nurse and Diabetes and on the occasion, nurses were honoured for their dedication and service. This year’s theme for the day is ‘Nurses make a difference’.
Next milestone: diabetic care at home
“Our objective is very clear: The continuum of care from hospital to home.
And our expert team has already been attending to patients at home. Reaching the next milestone by IMC Sugar Apollo is to provide comprehensive diabetic care to their patients at home. Nurses also play a key role as educators on diabetes for the patients and the family members,” said KP Shobha, General Manager, Apollo Hospitals Muscat.
For Apollo, all lives matter
The latest addition to the facility is a branded automobile for home care. This home care service is yet another step toward the principle of “all lives matter,” Shobha said.
