Muscat: SV Pittie Sohar Textile, one of the leading global textile manufacturers of compact and carded yarn, has announced the commencement of its dedicated training centre which is set up in Sohar.
The company together with National Training Fund and Ministry of Manpower had selected 1,000 Omani for a specialised 14-month training programme at their dedicated training centre in 2019. After the permission to reopen the training centre was given by the authorities, the trainees returned with zeal to complete the remaining 6 weeks programme which was put on hold due to the COVID-19 in early March. The first batch of 315 Omani women is undergoing their final semester of ‘On Job Training’ and will become a part of the workforce by year-end.
Vinod Pittie, Group Chairman of SV Pittie Group in his statement mentioned, “The final semester of the training programme which the women are undertaking in the plant is crucial and important. This apprenticeship is of vital experience as they are working on the machines and the yarn produced is exported.”
The plant and machinery are of the latest generation and world-class. Upon the successful completion and certification, they will join as full-time employees. The first batch is scheduled to complete the training in December 2020.
The Sohar facility in addition to yarn manufacturing has also set up a downstream facility for knitting, weaving and garmenting thereby creating value addition and additional employment opportunities. The company has already pledged employment to 1,000 Omani women who are undergoing their training programme currently. It will be a pride and honour to make textile products ‘Made by Omani Women in Oman for the World’, said group chairman.
SV Pittie Group aims to establish an Integrated Textile Cluster, positioning the Sultanate of Oman as a global textile hub creating enormous job opportunities, empowering local entrepreneurship and creating a new industry sector.
