Muscat: Tender Board, in collaboration with the Foreign Ministry, yesterday organised an orientation meeting for directors and department heads at the Board on the Transfer of Science and Technology project.
The meeting covered the cooperation agreement signed between the Sultanate and the United States.
This agreement emanates from the desire of both the countries to enhance bilateral relations and support the international efforts to promote scientific and technology development.
The agreement covers a range of areas of cooperation between the two countries including the exchange of visits among scientists, researchers, training of those involved in science and technology development activities, organising joint seminars and workshops and implementing joint projects in the field.
The agreement also enhances economic cooperation between the two countries through advanced technology applications and strengthening the efforts made towards conversion to knowledge-based economy.
Further, the agreement gives priority to the cooperation that may serves the common aims in scientific research and technology fields and boosts partnership among public and private research organisations in science, technology and engineering fields.
It also encourages both parties to develop direct communication and cooperation among public and private organisations, research centers and institutes in scientific research and technology fields.
Dr. Yousef bin Abdullah Al Balushi, Director of Transfer of Science, Knowledge and Technology Office at the Foreign Ministry reviewed the available business opportunities in the Transfer of Science and Technology Project’s agreement.
The cooperation agreement for transfer of science and technology between the Sultanate and USA was signed in Davos in Switzerland on January 22, 2016 and was ratified by the Royal Decree No. 18/2016 issued on March 17, 2016.
