Muscat: Altogether 25,659 marriages were registered in all the Sultanate’s governorates in 2015 and the divorce cases stood at 3,619, according to the statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information.
The number of marriages in Oman fell to its lowest in five years in 2015. While there were more than 28,000 marriages in 2013 and 2014, in 2012 the number stood at was 29, 840 and in 2011 it was 26, 544.
GCC nationals
The number of Omanis who married to GCC nationals increased by 10 in 2015 against 2014 and by 30 cases to other nationalities in 2015 against 2014.
The Governorate of North Al Batinah has recorded the highest number of marriages in 2015 (5,448 cases, a decrease of 12 per cent against 2014) followed by the Muscat Governorate (4, 367 cases, a decrease of 7 per cent against 2014); Al Dakhiliyah Governorate (3, 526 cases, a decrease of 8 per cent); South Al Batinah Governorate (3, 246 cases, a decrease of 13 per cent against 2014); Dhofar Governorate (2, 298 cases, a decrease of 7 per cent against 2014); South Al Sharqiyah Governorate (2, 032 cases, a decrease of 8 per cent ) North Al Sharqiyah Governorate (2, 955 cases, a decrease of 8 per cent against 2014); Al Dhahirah Governorate ( 1, 645 cases, a decrease of 9 per cent against 2014); Musandam Governorate (290 cases, an increase of 7 per cent against 2014); Al Wusta Governorate (250 cases, a decrease of 5 per cent against 2014).
The highest number of divorces was registered in Muscat Governorate (3, 619 cases, an increase of 15 per cent against 2014) followed by North Al Batinah ( 660 cases, a decrease of 1 per cent) ; Dhofar Governorate (506 cases a decrease of 3 per cent against 2015); Al Dakhiliyah (320 cases, a decrease of 6 per cent against 2014); South Al Sharqiyah ( 311 cases, a decrease of 10 per cent against 2014); South Al Batinah (281 cases, a decrease of 6 per cent against 2014); North Al Sharqiyah (219 cases, a decrease of 24 per cent) Al Buraimi Governorate (178 cases, an increase of 25 per cent); Al Dhahirah Governorate (150 cases, a decrease of 3 per cent against 2014); Al Wusta Governorate (61 cases, a decrease of 15 per cent against 2014) and Musandam Governorate (36 cases an increase of 57 per cent against 2014).
