Muscat: More than 650 publishing houses from around 30 countries will participate in this year’s annual Muscat International Book Fair, which will take place from February 22 to March 2, 2020.
676 publishing houses from 32 countries will participate in the book fair directly and 270 publishing houses will also take part indirectly through proxies, bringing the total number of participants to 946, said Dr. Abdulmonam bin Mansoor Al Hasani, Minister of Information, at the press conference for the 25th session of the annual Muscat International Book Fair which was held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) on Monday.

Al Hasani said that the opening ceremony of the exhibition will take place on Saturday, February 22 at 7 pm, under the patronage of His Highness Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, Advisor to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin
Tarik and will open its doors to the public at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) from February 23 to March 2, 2020.
The Late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said bin Taimour’s life will be the highlight of the cultural programme, and an encyclopedia, titled ‘History of Oman Across Ages’ will be launched at the exhibition, said the Minister of Information.
He also said that 25 initiatives in thought and culture will be presented at this year’s exhibition, and five of those initiatives will be celebrated at the end of the exhibition and will be sponsored for a full year.
According to him, the Muscat International Book Fair is ranked according to the classification of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council among the three best exhibitions at the level of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the second at the Arab level, in terms of purchasing power and the turnout of visitors.
On an international level, Al-Hasani said that the quality of activities and events organised by the exhibition, specifically those programmes directed towards family and children, distinguish the book fair from others across the world.
