Muscat: The Department of Consumer Protection at Al Seeb recently managed to retrieve more than OMR18,000 for a consumer through a friendly compromise, as part of the efforts made by the authority to deal with complaints and reports received by consumers in all available ways and means.
According to the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP), “The administration received a complaint from a consumer, during which he stated that he had purchased a new vehicle from a car agency, and after receiving it he noticed that the vehicle was not to the agreed specifications and as the agency refused to return the amount to the consumer, it prompted him to submit his complaint.”
“The authority has taken the procedures followed in such cases where contact has been made with those concerned within the agency who have expressed their cooperation and in light of this a friendly compromise contract has been reached in which it was agreed that the vehicle agency will return the amount paid by the consumer.”
“The Public Authority for Consumer Protection calls upon suppliers to adhere to the laws in force in the field of consumer protection and to fulfill the requirements and obligations imposed on them for the preservation of consumer rights and to ensure their health and safety when providing them with any goods or service, and the need to ensure the safety of the vehicle before selling it to consumers to avoid any defects after purchase," they added.
