Events organised to mark Ambedkar’s 125th birth anniversary in Oman

MUSCAT: B. R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian constitution, had done commendable work in framing the constitution and his work in the fields of social justice and economics is also remarkable, Indra Mani Pandey, the Indian ambassador to Oman, said.
The Indian ambassador delivered a speech at a function organised to mark Ambedkar’s 125th birth anniversary in Muscat by the Ambedkar International Mission Oman (AIM Oman).
The event is being celebrated in various parts of the world to spread his thoughts and ideas.
The year 2016 has been declared as the “Equality and Social Justice Year” by India to commemorate the leader’s 125th birth anniversary, with an event having been celebrated at the Indian Embassy Oman on April 14 and AIM Oman actively participating in the celebration.
Ambedkar was first Minister of Law in independent India and was given India’s highest civil award, the Bharat Ratna.
He was an Indian jurist, economist, politician and social reformer who campaigned against social discrimination, and played a major role in championing the rights of women, labourers and the oppressed people of Indian society.
Speakers from India included Dr. Narendra Jadhav, a member of the Rajya Sabha, and a noted economist and celebrated writer, who has articulated the various roles played by Ambedkar in building India before and after the Independence.
Another accompanying guest from India was Dr. Said Parnerkar, a social servant, who in his speech appealed to the audience to follow the three main principles recommended by Ambedkar: Liberty, Equality and Fraternity, on which the Indian constitution is based.
