Muscat: A series of Spanish films will be shown as part of the Sixth ‘Spanish Cinema Nights’, that will be held at Shatti City Cinema on May 15, 16 and 17 at 7 pm, according to a press note.
Organised by the Embassy of Spain in the Sultanate of Oman, the Department of Culture of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the Omani-Spanish Friendship Association, Unión Fenosa Gas and Shatti City Cinema, three popular movies will be screened aiming at offering a glimpse of Spanish contemporary cinema according to the following schedule:
Original Spanish versions of Marshland (18+) on May 15, Box 507 (PG) on May 16, and Thesis (18+) on May 17 with English subtitles will be shown to those interested in Spanish language and culture, and to the audience in Oman in general.
“The three films selected this year are intense thrillers that offer suspense, drama and mystery from different settings, angles and perspectives, showcasing the variety of Spanish cinema in this particular genre,” the release said.
Marshland (‘La Isla Mínima’, 2014, 18+) is set in 1980 in a remote town of the Spanish Deep South. Two ideologically opposed detectives will have to set aside their differences in order to successfully arrest a serial killer who for years has terrorised the local community. In the best tradition of ‘film noir’, Marshland offers a detective story with a subtle sociological subplot.
