Indian fishermen caught poaching in Sri Lanka

Seven fishermen from India were apprehended by Sri Lanka's Navy for poaching in the island nation's territorial waters, state media reported.

The fishermen and their trawler were picked up by a fast gunboat from Sri Lanka's Northern Naval Command in the area off the Thalaimannar Lighthouse.

According to state media, the fishermen were escorted to the SLNS Thammanna naval base.

They ranged in age from 18 to 36 years old and are expected to be handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Mannar for further action.
