Abandoned girl to stay at child care centre in Oman if no relative shows up

Latest: Oman police make progress in abandoned girl’s case
Muscat:
In case no relative of the abandoned girl shows up, she will be kept at the centre for permanent stay until a family offers to foster her, the Director of Child Care Centre in Oman, has said.
Earlier on Monday morning, the girl, who was found abandoned on Friday in a public park in Al Buraimi, was transferred to the Child Care Centre in Muscat, the Ministry of Social Development announced.
Many social media users have offered to foster the child and have shown sympathy with her.
A citizen has also offered via Twitter an OMR1,000 award for the person who can find the abandoned girl's parents.
However, the Ministry of Social Development said it’s too early to hand over the little girl to a foster family.
According to the law, she will be kept at the centre until all legal procedure are over. She will be later kept at 'Al Wifaq' Care Centre.
There are criteria to be followed in order to foster a child, and those who are interested must contact the Child Affair Department of the Ministry of Social Development, the ministry said.
The unidentified girl is around two years old, said the Royal Oman Police (ROP), while appealing to relatives or members of the public who have any information about the abandoned child, to immediately contact Al Buraimi police station, or call at the emergency number 9999.
