Muscat: As part of its endeavour to ensure the safety and security of all its customers, residents, and tenants, during emergencies, Tilal Complex recently conducted an evacuation drill.
The drill was conducted in collaboration with the Public Authority for Civil Defense and Ambulance (PACDA), Royal Oman Police (ROP), Ministry of Health (MOH), Petrogas E &P Company, Muscat Electricity Distribution Company (MEDC), and Muscat Municipality.
The primary aim of the drill was to raise awareness among customers, residents, and tenants about the importance of making the correct decisions in case of unforeseen emergencies. It was also to ensure their preparedness and enlighten them on the fundamental rules to be followed in case an emergency arises.
Commenting on the importance of conducting such programmes, Hassan Jaboub, general manager of Muscat Grand Mall said, “The crucial point of such training programmes is the fact that it allows us to assess how prepared we are for any kind of emergency. Therefore, we at the Tilal Complex conduct these drills on a number of occasions. The training drill for the day included practical exercises on how evacuation plans are organised, in the event of fires or other emergencies, through a pre-set evacuation plan. The drill was successful in meeting our objectives, and we will take what we have learnt and implement them when conducting similar drills in the future.”
The evacuation training included members from Muscat Grand Mall, Tilal offices, and the Tilal Complex. During the drill, all participants were trained in the use of fire extinguishers. They were also informed not to use the elevators or escalators in such situations, instead proceed to the nearest emergency exit and make their way to the designated assembly point outside the building in an orderly manner. The participants were cooperative and showed a great understanding of what was conducted during the course of the drill.
“I would like to extend my gratitude to our partners who played a major role in the success of this drill, namely PACDA, ROP, MOH, Petrogas E &P Company, MEDC, and Muscat Municipality. Their contribution was invaluable in raising awareness about the importance of following an evacuation plan and properly acting upon it in case of an emergency. I would also like to thank all the residents, tenants, and customers of Tilal and the employees of Muscat Grand Mall for their cooperation over the course of the entire event,” Hassan added.
