Muscat: At an exclusive function, held at Lexus showroom, Wattayah, the completely redesigned Lexus LS, the flagship sedan was launched in Oman.
The guests of honour at the function were Shinji Kishida, deputy chief engineer, Product Planning and Toshiyuki Nakahara, project general manager, Sales & Marketing Department, Middle East & North Africa Division. Attending the occasion was Saud Mohamed Bahwan and dignitaries from the public and private sectors.
Speaking on the occasion Kishida said, “This 5th generation LS was developed to redefine the luxury landscape by reviewing every fundamental detail. Driving performance was dramatically improved. We have given particular attention towards creating a more emotional driving experience through the steering, braking, a rhythmical acceleration and a comfortable sound when you accelerate. Furthermore, in the LS F Sport grade a newly developed (VDIM) vehicle dynamic control system provides a vehicle stability control at even higher levels of driving dynamic performance. In terms of powertrain, we have three different options. First is the 3.5L V6 NA Engine. Second is the 3.5L V6 Twin Turbo engine. The new engine is paired with our new 10-speed automatic transmission, to give comparable acceleration to competitors’ models and that provides emotional driving pleasure through powerful and rhythmical acceleration feel. The third powertrain is the 3.5L V6 Hybrid System. This multi-stage hybrid system is paired with an e-CVT transmission placed behind the motor and engine. The two systems work together to expand the overall range of gearing and increase operation of the V6 engine across a wider speed range than previous hybrids.”
Sharing his thoughts on Lexus’ radical shift in design and comfort he said, “The design was also changed to make you expect emotional driving. We wanted to create something completely new and unique. Having thousands of sketches the designer reached this completely new and bold proportion, unlike anything else. That shows Lexus future direction. While the new LS was dramatically changed, the fun to drive vehicle, still provides the best comfort with superior and unique interior design and function. We even paid attention to the detail, the height of the armrests. It is as if passengers are resting on a chair and we matched the heights, angles, and length of the centre console with the armrests for maximum comfort. The rear seat of the Ottoman Grade includes top-level spacious cabin and up to 1,022 mm of leg room to stretch and relax. For this rear seat, (22-way) adjustment and ottoman are equipped to enhance the comfort, whether you have the seat upright for entering or exiting, or reclined for relaxation. Shiatsu massage is also available for the front seat. Design inspired by traditional Japanese cultural elements characterise the interior.”
Highlighting the inclusion of Takumi craftsmanship and the overall experiences he said, “For unique Japanese aesthetics we incorporated emotionally engaging details. We incorporated Hand pleated door trim cloth to create a dramatic, three-dimensional surface. We also incorporated Kiriko cut glass door ornament. The master of ‘Kiriko’ glass a tradition continuing from the Edo era carved out the beautiful cuts that change expressions of lighting. Last but not the least, our goal and aim during the development of this vehicle were to create a car that would accompany the customer to become an irreplaceable best partner in every scenario and stimulate the sensitivity whether you are looking for a driving pleasure or peacefulness.”
In his keynote address, Nakahara spoke about LS’ successful journey since its incorporation. He said, “The history of Lexus began with the introduction of the LS in 1989. The LS was a model that revolutionised the concept of the luxury car, arriving on the market with immense emotional impact. Superior driving performance yet wonderfully quiet and smooth.”
Sharing his thoughts on brand Lexus he said, “The times are changing and with them the whole idea of luxury. Once, luxury used to be just pride of ownership. Now it is about individual satisfaction through a unique experience. As a result, people are more and more interested in the story behind a product. We would like to be a luxury lifestyle brand, not just provide cars. Our products appeal to every sense. They offer the surprise and excitement that people with a lot of experience in life want a richer, fuller life. Lexus continues to provide surprise and emotional impact taking advantage of four things – brave design, exhilarating performance, Takumi craftsmanship and imaginative technology to always put people first.”
The new 5th Generation 2018 LS has a completely new appearance, which combines craftsmanship and luxury. The LS is the flagship of the Lexus brand, and more than any other model, it embodies the history and image of Lexus and serves as a symbol of everything the brand stands for.
Earlier in the evening, the SBG spokesperson speaking on behalf of the chairman, Saud Bahwan Group said, “Lexus in Oman has remained distinctive in offering the finest customer experiences since the last 27 years. Our focus on achieving the highest levels of customer satisfaction consistently has made Lexus Oman the preferred luxury automotive brand, year after year.
