Formula One heading to Oman

Muscat: Muscat’s iconic Muttrah Corniche is set to be transformed into a high octane racetrack as the glitz and the glamour of Formula One heads to Oman for the first time.
Red Bull is bringing its F1 Showrun spectacle to the Sultanate on April 8 which is expected to attract up to 20,000 fans who will be able to line the seafront to experience the ear-splitting roar of the engine, the haze of tyre smoke and aroma of burning rubber.
Red Bull Racing will be bringing one of its Constructor’s Championship winning machines, which can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 2.4 seconds. It will be a Red Bull driver behind the wheel, but the identity is being kept under wraps for now by organisers.
The car is expected to zoom along the Muttrah Corniche at speeds of up to 250kph, and will be performing donuts, burnouts and speed stretches for thousands of fans throughout the day.
The build-up to the event will begin in the days prior to April 8, with the car touring various locations in Oman, plus being ‘fired up’ at Omantel’s headquarters on April 7.

The F1 Showrun team has been to every inhabited continent such as the city streets of Europe, the deserts of America, the highest road in the Himalayas and the frozen rivers of Canada performing for audiences who otherwise are unable to witness F1 racing live.
This Red Bull F1 Showrun is being held in partnership with Times of Oman, Shabiba, the Ministry of Tourism, the Royal Oman Police, Oman Automobile Association, Khimji Ramdas, HiFM and Hala FM.
