Muscat: If bacterial contamination is found in any of the Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW) sources, immediate action will be taken to halt the pumping and an alternative source to provide drinking water will be arranged, a top official from the authority said.
“The water source will go online only after disinfection measures are taken,” Engineer Hamad bin Saeed Al Hassani, director of water quality at the PAEW said.
There are 15 water quality testing laboratories in Oman equipped with different types of analytical devices in addition to the central laboratory in Muscat, which has equipment and analytical devices to check chemical and physical properties of water.
“These laboratories have highly efficient technicians who have expertise in the examination and analysis of the water quality,” the official noted.
The specifications and standards adopted in the quality of the water is as per the Omani standards and specifications for non-bottled drinking water No.8/2012.
“The PAEW has been making continuous efforts to provide high quality drinking water and the water quality department in Muscat headquarters and the water quality sections in other regions of Oman ensure and regulate the water quality from all the sources,” the official added.
