Oman’s peace role to aid collaboration with peace award

Muscat: Oman’s role of a peacemaker in the region may lead to its collaboration with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for World Peace (MRAWP) in the near future.
“The Sultanate of Oman is one of the countries that calls for peace and security; its people cherish peace, coexistence and dialogue, so there is a lot of room for participation with Omani organisations in future initiatives so as to work together in order to establish world peace,” said Brigadier and Secretary General Ahmad Khalfan Al Mansouri, secretary general of the Awards.
“Of course, we are seeking a global idea that promotes peace partnerships and establishes world peace.
“It is possible that there will be initiatives in the Gulf region, where we had made a contribution in Bahrain through the pulpits of peace,” he added.
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for World Peace was established by Decree 19 of 2011, to accurately and fairly highlight Islam’s teachings of peace, as a doctrine that promotes harmony, tolerance and moderation. The award also aims to build bridges of cooperation between diverse cultures, thereby fortifying international relations. It endeavours to recognise individuals and organisations that make outstanding contributions to peace and humanitarian pursuits. .
According to Al Mansouri, the idea of the award came after the Dubai International Peace Conference in 2010 held under the theme of “Historical Document Dubai,” where the statement included the allocation of an annual award offered to those who have made a distinctive contribution to the cause of peace through interaction among civilisations and peoples.
“The award is directly linked with the man of peace Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, may God protect him.
“The main objective of the award is to highlight the tolerance of Islam and moderation, substance and fairness and civilised speech and acceptance of others, and to elevate Dubai’s and the United Arab Emirates’ status and exposure worldwide.”
