Muscat: Pakistan Embassy in Muscat hosted a grand reception at the Ambassador of Pakistan’s residence to celebrate their country’s Defence Day in style.
Brigadier General Rashid Humood Al Tammami, director general of the Military Cooperation and Military Attaches Affairs, the Chief of Staff of the Sultan’s Armed Forces, and Ali Javed, ambassador of Pakistan, cut a large cake to mark the occasion, officially celebrated in Pakistan on September 6 every year.
The national anthems of Oman and Pakistan were played in the presence of a large number of Omani and Pakistani dignitaries, high ranking government civil and military officials, diplomats and businessmen.
Addressing the gathering, the Pakistan ambassador said, “Mohammad Ali Jinnah, our great leader and founding father had decreed that Pakistan would practice a foreign policy, based on values of fair play and non-interference. These remain our guiding principles. Our Prime Minister has thus set forth his vision of a ‘Peaceful Neighbourhood’ laying the emphasis on regional and international peace as a means to collective prosperity.”
He added that since 1960, the Pakistan Armed Forces had undertaken more than 41 United Nations peacekeeping missions in over 23 countries.
Despite sacrificing nearly 150 Peacekeepers and domestic commitments, Pakistan has continued to be the second highest contributor to UNPKO.
Highlighting his country’s colossal contribution to the war against terror, the ambassador said, “Pakistan is also engaged in the global war against terrorism for 15 years as a frontline state. In that process alone, we have sacrificed 45,000 lives. The war continues and so does our unwavering resolve to defeat the dark forces.”
In the end, the guests were treated to a variety of delicious Pakistani cuisine.
