
Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman has crowned its efforts to develop the postal sector by securing first place regionally for the second consecutive year and winning the "Regional Pioneer" award in the Postal Development Index 2026 issued by the Universal Postal Union (UPU).
This achievement reflects the development witnessed by the sector and the efforts made to enhance the efficiency of postal services and expand their scope. This result comes as the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, celebrates World Post Day, which is being observed this year under the theme "One Postal Network, Countless Possibilities," showcasing the developments and achievements made by the postal sector in Oman that have enhanced its regional and international standing.
The postal services network in Oman has seen growth in the number of post offices and access points, with the total rising from 610 points in 2024 to 704 points in 2025, enhancing the spread of postal services and their reach to various segments of society across the governorates. Muscat Governorate recorded the highest number of access points with 107 points, followed by Dhofar Governorate with 50 points, then North Al Batinah Governorate with 39 points.
The domestic express mail sector also achieved a 26 percent leap during 2025, reaching more than 4.38 million parcels, and handling more than 3 million inbound international parcels, amid growing demand for postal services and their role in supporting trade and logistics.
