Oman, Italy discuss cooperation in archaeological site management and tourism promotion

Muscat: His Excellency Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said Al Busaidi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, discussed during his visit to the Italian Republic with a number of Italian officials ways to strengthen cooperation in the fields of heritage and tourism and explore partnership opportunities with specialised Italian institutions.

His Excellency met with representatives of the Italian Alpine Club and Renco, where discussions focused on opportunities to cooperate in developing mountain and adventure tourism and benefiting from Italian expertise in developing trails and related services, with a view to diversifying tourism experiences in the Sultanate of Oman.

His Excellency also visited the Colosseum Archaeological Park, where he met with its management and reviewed its archaeological sites and experience in heritage protection, site management and enhancing the visitor experience. The two sides discussed opportunities for exchanging expertise and building capacities in these areas.

As part of efforts to explore opportunities to leverage sports in tourism promotion, His Excellency met with representatives of Inter Milan Football Club to discuss potential areas of cooperation in promoting the Sultanate of Oman and highlighting its tourism attractions.

The programme also included a presentation by AIGO, which operates the Omani Tourism Promotion Office in Italy, on the Italian tourism market and opportunities to strengthen Oman’s presence in the market. The programme further included meetings with a number of leading Italian media organisations to showcase the diverse tourism and heritage experiences offered by the Sultanate of Oman.

These meetings are part of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism’s efforts to strengthen international partnerships, benefit from specialised expertise in developing tourism products and preserving heritage, and enhance Oman’s presence in targeted tourism markets.
