
Muscat— Basil Ahmed Al Rawas, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Sports and Youth, today received at the VIP Lounge of Muscat International Airport, the delegation of Oman athletics team participating in the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
The reception came after our national team athletes Ali Al Balushi and Mulhim Al Balushi won the silver and bronze medals respectively in the 100-meter race. Sprinter Ali Al Balushi secured the silver medal after finishing the race in a time of 10.04 seconds, while Mulhim Al Balushi recorded a time of 10.11 seconds, thereby winning the bronze medal in the race.
Ali Al Balushi had joined the athlete preparation centers in 2010 and is classified in Category (A) of the program. He has been part of the promising athletes project since 2021. He began his career with the national team in 2017 and won two gold medals at the Gulf Junior Championship in 2019 (gold in the 100 meters and gold in the 200 meters). He also achieved fourth place globally at the World Athletics U20 Championship in Nairobi in 2021, and won gold at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in 2024 in the 60-meter race, recording a time of 6.50 seconds.
On his turn, Mulhim Al Balushi joined the promising athletes project in 2026. He won the gold medal in the 100-meter race at this year's Gulf Cooperation Council Games held in Qatar, as well as the gold medal at the 2024 West Asian Athletics Championship held in Iraq and the bronze medal at the 24th Arab Athletics Championship held in Algeria in 2025.
