Agreements worth OMR621,000 Inked in Al Dhahirah to rehabilitate aflaj, drill wells

Ibri--- The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources signed today 40 agreements for the rehabilitation and maintenance of aflaj systems and the drilling of auxiliary wells across the various wilayats of A’Dhahirah Governorate, at a total cost of OMR 621,363, as part of ongoing efforts to develop the water sector and restore the efficiency of the traditional irrigation system.

The agreements signed under the patronage of Tahir Mabkhout Al Junaibi, Governor of A’Dhahirah, with a number of companies and contractors comprised 35 agreements for the maintenance and rehabilitation of affected aflaj at a total cost of RO 513,555, and 5 agreements for the drilling of auxiliary wells and their ancillary facilities for a number of affected aflaj at a total cost of RO 107,808, aimed at enhancing water flows and ensuring their sustainability for agricultural lands.

The agreements were signed on behalf of the Ministry by Eng. Amer Saif Al Barhi, Director General of Agriculture and Water Resources in A’Dhahirah Governorate, together with representatives of the companies and institutions executing the projects.
