Muscat: Children First Association is providing free child car seats for families in Oman, Dr Ibrahim Al Harthi, deputy chairman of the association said.
Al Harthi called upon individuals and private companies to donate money for car seats to help save lives.
In coordination with Royal Oman Police, Children First allocated OMR2,000 to buy car seats in Oman.
“Each seat coasts between 30 and 40 Omani Rials,” he said.
In an interview with Times of Oman, Al Harthi explained the association is running a number of programmes to raise awareness about child safety and nutrition.
Children First was established in 2009 by the Ministry of Social Development.
Recently, the group has been intensifying their digital presence and launching electronic educational campaigns.
There are around 150 members in the association at the moment.
It costs OMR10 for employed people to join the group and OMR2 for students.
Al Harthi praised the Omani Child Law and said that it serves all the children in Oman.
“But it has to be implemented in a more practical way and this is our job - and the media’s - to raise awareness,” he added.
People can support the car seat initiative and donate via http://childrenfirst.om/ or Whatsapp 91730000.
